Reflection 2/9

During this two week we did so many thing. The first week we could not go to the black box so we stage in class and we have advanced many things. Maddie finished her monologue. Caroline and I started with the first draft war scene and also we have done the first scene. One day my group members could not come to class, but I was looking for sound that we could incorporate into the work such as the sounds that you can listen in an airport, or I was also looking for the sound of a gun for battle.

During the week I was also thinking about the lights that we could incorporate on stage and I think I had good ideas.
The last two days we were representing some parts of the work. The first day we focus more on the scene where Maddie is reading her monologue, Caroline is also on stage putting on military clothes, while all this happens I am on the sofa having the dream.
The last day Caroline and I were practicing the first scene because we had to change some things. This is hard to me, I think I have to improve the pronunciation of the dialogue and try to say it more natural. But I think I have no problem because my partners are helping me with it.

The second week we focus to make sure that the first scene and the scene when Maddie and Caroline read their letters were pretty good on the stage.  During the last days we tried to do the last scene. The most difficult in this scene is when I need to get up and scream, also when I’m alone in the stage and to finish the play I need to say “Dear Elli”.

When I saw the draft I thought that I need to move more on the stage, and some times I need to improve the volume that I say my lines.. Also when I am on bed during the monologues of Maddie and Caroline and during the war scene, I need to move on the bed, but we did not talk about that yet, because we are focusing more in another things. I think that we are going to start thinking about that, during this week.

Next week I think we are going to start doing the war scene, because we have the first and second scene, also we have the last scene when I got up of the dream and Caroline gives me a letter, this scene finish with me reading the letter, but I only have to say “Dear Elli”. It is a letter wrote by my big sister, Sophia.

QUESTIONS

1. What is the stimulus you are using? Describe it.
The song titled is “Just a Dream” by Carrie Underwood. When we hear this song, we want to show things that happen when your job is to be a military. This song is about a women who lost her husband, because he went to the military

2. What are/were some of your initial ideas based on the stimulus?A person from a family went to war, we wanted to join this with love, as for example a couple.

3. What ideas and themes are you exploring in your performance? With the first thing we explored were the lights on stage. But we also wanted to focus on the relationship that our characters had, so we also wrote lines that came to mind and we did with a small interpretation

4. What will your plot be? (beginning, middle, end -- scenes, transitions)
It all starts when Ellie enters the room and sees her sister Sophia packing. Ellie doesn't want her sister to leave but Sophia wants to follow in her mother's footsteps and go to the military center. When the sisters just argued, Ellie goes to bed.  Ellie has a dream. In the dream Shopia enters the military school, here Shopia has a war and dies. The final part Ellie hits a scream and wakes up, Sophia enters the room and tells him that everything is fine.

5. Who are the characters and how will they grow, change, or stay the same?
  • Sophia(Caroline). Older sister, she is leaving
  • Ellie#1(Helena), younger sister, she is worried because her sister is leaving.
  • Ellie#2(Maddie), dream version of Ellie#1, she is scared.

6. How might you use theater tech to enhance the story?
We will use sounds and lights, such as when Ellie falls asleep and has the dream

7. Who is the intended audience and what is the desired effect you want your piece to have on the audience? (reaction, meaning)
Older people, because we are talking about things that happen when people work as a military, but some teenagers can also understand

8. What are the important moments of tension and emotion?
The moment with more tension appears in the dream when the shots are heard and Ellie wakes up

9. Why is this piece important/meaningful to you personally?
It seems a little to what I am living here, I am far from my family. but I can at least see them once every three months. I can't imagine if I have to be there all year without seeing them.

10. What influences are you drawing on or engaging with in your work so far? (In class, for example, someone mentioned doing something similar to Livi's solo performance and someone else references viewpoints and perhaps Moment Work)
Put moments that we learned in class
